What is a nursery? This is a world in which children’s emotions and laughter, “adventures” and fantasies are enclosed. The world in which the baby spends an impressive part of his carefree childhood life – learns new things, sleeps and plays, gets the first lessons and takes the first steps. Therefore, the task of parents is to create the perfect cozy space for their baby and think over every little thing. See: Interesting decor for a children’s room with your own hands.
One of the main elements of the nursery interior is the floor covering, which should be safe, smooth, environmentally friendly, durable, easy to clean and warm… What floor to make in the nursery? Read up at Bologny.
Floor coverings suitable for the kid’s room – 7 variants
This material is compressed wood waste, which, in turn, is fixed with resin and laminated with foil. Key advantages of laminate flooring: aesthetically pleasing appearance, practicality and rather high strength. As for the harm to health, you can not worry about this if the laminate is not chosen from the cheapest. Sanitary standards in the production of cheap laminate, as a rule, are not observed, and the seller, of course, will not tell what percentage of melamine-formaldehyde resin binders is in the material. Therefore, you should not save. The ideal choice would be a laminate made on the basis of acrylic resins: the floor will be warm, safe and environmentally friendly. A good laminate can be easily washed from plasticine / paints, will retain its appearance for more than one year, and you can choose the color that suits the interior. Classic flooring for a child’s room.Minus: in the socks on the laminate, the child will be slippery; the material will not withstand a strong flood – it will swell; poor sound insulation (the rumble of a fallen toy will be heard throughout the apartment); susceptibility to scratches.
- Cork covering.
One of the best options for children, recommended by both pediatricians and designers. Advantages: unloads the spine, “springing” under the feet; absolutely natural eco-friendly material; moisture resistant and easy to clean; pleasant to the feet; warm and non-slippery; does not cause allergies and does not accumulate static electricity; does not absorb odors; is an additional noise isolator; fireproof and wear-resistant. On such a flooring, the kid will be able to play for hours, assemble the constructor and draw – no carpets are needed.Minuses: high price; the need for regular “sealing” to extend the service life.
Universal material, the price of which is from 180 to 3000 rubles per meter. As with laminate flooring, the higher the cost, the higher the quality of linoleum. Cheap material releases toxic substances into the air, so it is categorically impossible to put it in a nursery. High-quality linoleum will be a good solution: moisture and wear-resistant, withstands serious loads; washes perfectly; is a heat and sound insulator. Despite its synthetic nature, good linoleum is safe for health. For a nursery, it is better to choose a warmed version made of wood shavings, rubber and linseed oil with a cork. There are also no problems with color solutions – you can easily find the drawing you need for the design.Minus: most types of linoleum are slippery.
The same nuance: price-quality. Cheap carpet won’t do any good. Advantages of high-quality carpet: warm floors; softness and a feeling of comfort; wide range of colors; noise absorption.Flaws: complex care for the coating; stains left on the material are very difficult to remove; synthetic base; “Dust collector” – the dust that the coating collects can not be removed by 100 percent even with a washing vacuum cleaner.
When choosing this material, you should carefully study the composition of the coating: the natural components in the composition must be confirmed by a certificate. It is not recommended to lay carpet over the entire area of the nursery – a play area is enough, in which the covering will be periodically replaced.
- Soft floors.
The modern version of the coating (environmentally friendly foam polymer), beneficial from almost all sides. Such a floor is assembled from modules (rather quickly) and easily changes if the quality / appearance of one of the elements is lost. Advantages: does not collect dust, does not smell and does not conduct electricity; differs in “healthy” characteristics (harmless); not afraid of water and temperature changes; easy to clean; traumatic due to its softness; does not require additional insulation; varied in color.Minus: the coating is unlikely to last several years with intensive use.
- Massive board.
The most sustainable material in the nursery range. Such a covering can be attributed to the type of block parquet, with the exception of the size (the width of the dice is 10-20 cm, the length is 1-2.5 m). Advantages: 100% natural and ecological safety; stylish appearance; long service life (tens of years) and a useful microclimate in the nursery; warm floor.Flaws: high material cost; expensive and lengthy renovation.
- Parquet board.
In terms of advantages, this coating is the closest to the solid wood board: environmental friendliness, naturalness, attractive appearance, special microclimate, easy maintenance and durability. The most significant plus: quick repair in case of damage to the board (as opposed to an array). It is enough just to remove the skirting boards, quickly disassemble the floor and, replacing the damaged element with a new one, put it back together. And the cost of the parquet board is lower than the massive one.
Experts advise to zone the children’s room, laying your material in each zone.

It is desirable to combine eco-friendly materials – concern for health should be higher than worries about the cost of coverage.

Age matters too: for a two-year-old baby, an easily washable and soft material will be more rational, and a natural carpet with a long pile can be laid for a teenager.
