Didier Sornette is a French scientist and Professor on the Chair of Entrepreneurial Risks at ETH Zurich, Switzerland. He is also a Research Professor at the Swiss Finance Institute, and was previously a Professor of Geophysics at UCLA, Los Angeles California (1996-2006) and a Research Professor at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) (1981-2006).

He is known for his work on earthquake physics, dynamics of success on social networks and complex system approach to medicine. His primary focus is on prediction of crisis and extreme events in complex systems.

His research has been published in numerous journals including Science, Nature, Technology, and International Journal of Earth Sciences. He is a member of the French Academy of Engineering and was awarded the title of Honorary Member of the Accademia Europaea in 2013.

Sornette is considered to be one of the world’s leading experts on risk. He has developed sophisticated algorithms to detect disturbances in systems, ranging from heavy industry to finance. He is the co-developer and team leader of the global earthquake forecasting system, RichterX.

Didier Sornette is also well known for his pioneering work in econophysics, which investigates the link between economic activity and natural disasters. He is also a pioneer in using fractals and chaos theory to model crises in global financial markets. He is currently the director of the Financial Crisis Observatory at ETH Zurich and works to predict the next crash in financial markets with probabilistic accuracy.
