As a child, Javaris Crittenton was obsessed with basketball. He would play with the mini basket he received as a Christmas present and practice day and night – his interest eventually led to becoming a professional NBA player for several different teams, such as Los Angeles Lakers, Memphis Grizzlies and Washington Wizards – earning an abundance of cash during this brief but lucrative stint before legal issues made them go away again.

Crittenton was raised in Atlanta, Georgia. At Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy he excelled as a highly-ranked high school basketball player and earned scholarships from universities like Duke and Florida; however he decided on Georgia Tech instead, where he excelled as team leader despite only attending for one season; later leaving to pursue his goal of playing in the NBA.

In 2007, he was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 19th pick in the first round of the NBA draft and participated in their Summer League. Later, in a three-team trade involving Memphis Grizzlies, Memphis and Washington Wizards; after playing two or three games for Memphis before moving on.

As part of his Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) debut in December 2010, he played five games for Zhejiang Guangsha Lions and averaged 25.7 points per game in five contests. After returning home, in February 2011 he joined Dakota Wizards of NBA D-League where he started five of 21 matches that they played together.

Crittenton became involved in several controversial situations while playing for the NBA. In 2009, David Stern suspended him due to an altercation with Gilbert Arenas over gambling debts that escalated into physical confrontation.

Crittenton was arrested at John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California and charged with the murder of 22-year-old mother of four Jullian Jones. Authorities suspected him as being involved, yet he denied all involvement.

Though the NBA has yet to issue official statements about Crittenton, he is unlikely to return anytime soon. His past issues will always loom large over him and may make finding employment difficult; plus, paying for crimes committed will have long-term repercussions; it’s unlikely he can ever live comfortably again.
