The Mariinsky Theater opens its 239th season.
Today the Mariinsky Theater opens its doors to the public after the holidays. On the new stage on September 8 and 9, recent premieres are given – “The Maid of Orleans” Tchaikovsky and “Tannhäuser” Wagner with Valery Gergiev at the control panel. In the Concert Hall these days – opera “The Wedding of Figaro” Mozart and concert of the Stradivari-ensemble led by Lorenz Nasturik-Gershovichi. The historical stage will open on 23 September with ballets by Mikhail Fokine.
September at the Mariinsky gives you the opportunity to see all the opera premieres of the 238th season: in addition to The Maid of Orleans and Tannhäuser, this “Bat” Strauss, “Rural honor” Mascagni, “Lakme” Delibes and “Tales of Hoffmann” Offenbach. At the end of September, there will be two performances of a new multi-genre performance based on the works Stravinsky, which choreographer Maxim Petrov choreographed for the new stage – “Bike. Mavra. Fairy kiss. “
The Mariinsky also promises to perform an entire opera for the first time in Russia. Alberto Franchetti “Christopher Columbus” (most of the piece has already been performed at the Stars of the White Nights festival this summer). The arrival of European opera stars is expected – soprano Elena Pankratova and tenor Andreas Shager, who will sing in the Mariinsky production “Women without a shadow” Richard Strauss… The pianist will give a concert on September 29 Daniil Trifonov; a gala concert in honor of the anniversary is scheduled for October 1 Anna Netrebko.
Season 239’s first festival event will be IX International Organ Festival “Mariinsky”, which will be held from 20 to 31 October. Musicians from France, Germany, Austria and Russia will perform at the Concert Hall. All the traditional festivals of the Mariinsky Theater are planned throughout the year: piano, ballet, harp and flute, as well as the XXX anniversary music festival Stars of the White Nights.
The Mariinsky’s plans for the new theatrical year include opera productions Benvenuto Cellini Berlioz (director – Alexey Frandetti, premiere in November), “La Gioconda” Amilcar Ponchielli, “Huguenots” Giacomo Meyerbeer, “Nuremberg Meistersingers” Richard Wagner… The most anticipated ballet premiere – “Pharaoh’s daughter” based on the 1862 production by Marius Petipa. The reconstruction of the choreography is carried out by Alexei Ratmansky, the costumes and scenography are created by Robert Perdziola.
Since the new season, the Mariinsky has joined the social program for schoolchildren and students “Pushkin map”… The performances participating in the program are marked on the theater’s website with a self-portrait of Pushkin and are sold at a special rate. The Mariinsky Theater program for schoolchildren reopens “Theater lesson”… Due to coronavirus restrictions, it will be held in a reduced form: instead of an excursion in the theater, there will be a lesson and a film screening at school, but with a mandatory visit to the performance.
The start of the new season was preceded by a summer tour of the Mariinsky Theater musicians in Switzerland, Italy and France, as well as concerts in the Moscow Zaryadye Hall. Already on September 10, the orchestra under the direction of Valery Gergiev goes on a European tour, the route of which passes through Bulgaria, Italy, the Netherlands and France.
