What would the stars look like if they were born in Russia in the 18th century?
You probably remember that the replacement of the Russian costume with a fashionable all-European one took place at the beginning of the 18th century after a number of special decrees Peter I…
The introduction of European customs into the life of the nobility, the training of Russian youth abroad, the beginning of a cultural exchange with European countries – all this led to the Europeanization of the Russian noble costume.
However, for its implementation in life, government decrees were required, forcing by force, fines to change old forms of clothing and shoes, as well as hair and cosmetics. By decree Peter I in 1700, noblemen and townspeople were prohibited from wearing the old Russian costume and the following uniforms were established instead: for men – a short fitted caftan and camisole, culottes, long stockings and shoes with buckles, a shaved face; for women – a wide frame skirt, a tight-fitting bodice (bodice) with a deep neckline, high-heeled shoes, bright decorative cosmetics (blush and whitewash). Thus, the main forms of European clothing have replaced the ancient Russian costume, which is absolutely different from them in terms of constructive and decorative solution.

Meghan Markle, the wife of Prince Harry, would be a real Russian fashionista! The royal personage in the image of the Russian rococo looks charming.
Of course, the Hollywood film star Natalie Portman, if she lived in those days, would be a supporter of European fashion. Natalie would have had no other choice, otherwise, she would have received punishment for her disobedience. Eye-catching! Pretty woman, isn’t she?
Popular singer Lady Gaga is a lover of shocking images. It is not for nothing that they call her “the lady of outrageousness”. Bright images are very suitable for the star, however, such a classic style of clothing suits her very much. Perhaps Lady Gaga is good in any way.
We conclude our review of the history of fashion in the 18th century in Russia with another popular singer – Justin Bieber. The clothes of that era were different from the modern ones, but the basis of the men’s suit was formed even then. Today it is a jacket, vest and trousers, and in the 18th century – a caftan, camisole and culottes.
Similar men’s suit in the era Peter I could be worn by noble residents of the capital, lawyers or wealthy merchants. Justin Bieber in those days would certainly have been a noble person and would have worn this particular Peter’s costume. As you can see, the men’s suit was not inferior to the women’s one in brightness and an abundance of decorative details.
