Everyone knows that the body tends to produce a large number of various hormones that ensure the normal functioning of all internal organs and systems. One of these hormones – androgen – is produced in both the male body and the female. Only if it benefits the stronger sex, then its excess in the female body threatens not with the most pleasant consequences. Namely:

  • Violation of the activity of the sebaceous glands.
  • The appearance of various skin problems.
  • Active growth of dense and long hair throughout the body (hirsutism).

Therefore, if thick black hair on the hands began to grow actively for no apparent reason, it makes sense to undergo an examination and exclude diseases such as ovarian cancer, diabetes mellitus or thyroid disease. In general, deal with your hormonal background. If everything is in order with your hormones, and the hair on your hands spoils your mood and causes discomfort, then you can get rid of them using one of the most famous and effective methods.

How to get rid of arm hair – the best ways

  1. The traditional, most popular method is shaving.… The machine removes hair quickly, painlessly, but not for long. Disadvantages of this method: stubble that appears after a couple of days. And every time the hair grows faster, and more and more coarse. It is unlikely that you and your other half will like the result. As a result, you will have to shave your hands on a daily basis.
  2. Depilatory cream. Simple, fast, painless, convenient. But … also only for a couple of days. Some women are “lucky”, and after several such procedures, hair stops growing altogether. But this is rather an exception. More often than not, the hair becomes even thicker and the stubble is the same as shaving. Another significant drawback is an allergic reaction that often occurs to the components of such creams.
  3. Waxing. This method will remove these flaws for two weeks (sometimes more). The downside is the painfulness of the procedure. If your pain threshold is high, then it will not be easy. Otherwise, hot wax and wax strips are effective. Another significant disadvantage of the waxing method is that the hair must grow at least a few millimeters (at least four) for the best result. Otherwise, the hairs simply cannot be removed entirely. And this, unfortunately, suggests that you will have to hide your arms with long sleeves for some time.
  4. Epilator… Hair removal along with hair follicles. The result is smooth skin for a month or more. By choosing a modern model of epilator, you can remove hair less painfully, thanks to such functions as massage, cooling, stretching the skin, etc. Hair ingrowth is not to be afraid of – this is an extremely rare phenomenon for the skin of the hands. Read on to learn how to get rid of ingrown hairs, so there should be no redheads or inflammation. Minus one: for most women, hair removal with an epilator is torture.
  5. Laser hair removal. The most efficient way. Hair is removed permanently or for a very long time. Of course, provided that you come across a good specialist. Because otherwise, you risk getting burned or unwanted skin pigmentation. The downside is the cost of the procedure.
  6. Photoepilation. The method is absolutely painless and non-contact. Hair removal for a very long time. Disadvantages of the method: cost; several procedures may be required.
  7. Bleaching (clarification). Not removal, but effective disguise. The point of the method is to thin the hair, which gradually becomes completely invisible. Benefits: The skin after this procedure is softer and smoother.

Commentary from Raisa Zhmareva, Head of Medical Staff at the Endocrinology and Diabetes Center at Tallinn Children’s Hospital

ZhmarevaOn the market, along with dozens of products designed to add thickness and shine to hair, there are dozens more promising remedies for getting rid of unwanted hair. So what is unwanted hair?

All hair is made up of keratin, a hard protein that is also found in the nails of the hands and feet. Hair growth begins under the surface of the skin from the hair root inside the hair follicle. Hair undergoes many changes with age. In infancy, vellus hair or vellus hair helps the body regulate temperature – soft, thin and short.

Most women have them on the chest, back and face. In some, they may be darker and more noticeable than in others, especially in those with darker skin color. During adolescence, this hair becomes terminal hair, which means it is thicker, stronger, longer and darker in color. This type of hair is similar to the hair that grows on the head. During puberty, they begin to grow in the armpits and on the pubis.

In men, they grow on the legs, beard and back under the influence of the hormone levels of Androgens. Terminal hair provides cushioning and protection. Armpits – can help create a pair. This is because the armpits give off a scent containing pheromones, which plays a role in sex drive.

In women, excessive hair growth, called hirsutism, can be the result of certain medical conditions. In girls, polycystic ovary syndrome, obesity, insulin resistance, and other hormonal imbalances can cause dark, coarse hair to grow on the face, especially on the upper lip and chin, and on the chest, abdomen, and back.

Certain medications such as anabolic steroids, antidepressants, sleeping pills, and some antibiotics can also cause hirsutism.
