Once his playing days had come to a close, he went on to serve as an assistant coach at Silverado High School in Henderson, Nevada, helping both its varsity and junior varsity teams attain success. Later he was hired as offensive coordinator at University of Southern California.
Cunningham also enjoys pursuing a career in Gospel music. He runs his own production company that records Christian worship songs. Furthermore, he holds an ordained ministership and founded Remnant Ministries in 2004.
Vashti Cunningham has been his partner for more than 30 years. Additionally, he is the older brother of former college and NFL footballer Sam Cunningham (New England Patriots). Samuel worked as a railroad worker while Mabel served as nurse; their family spent much time together during their formative years, playing football among themselves or attending high school games together and this fueled his love of the game.
