John Lennon left first wife and 5-year-old son
When a person is famous and knows how to make a positive impression, few people know what actually hides behind a cute appearance. Often, behind such a mask, a person with a mass of shortcomings and complexes is hidden. John Lennon’s message about universal love and peace became so popular that no one ever considered him a real person, except for those close to him. For the public, he was a celebrity and a shining symbol of his time.

John Lennon – what he was
The legendary Beatle, shot by Mark Chapman in December 1980, was not only a star, but also a husband and father. In 1958, while studying at the Liverpool College of Art, the musician met Cynthia Powell.
“He was a real shaggy bear cub and looked like he was ready to attack you immediately,” Cynthia recalled their meeting. “We took calligraphy lessons, but he clearly didn’t like these lessons.”
Soon they began to meet, although even then, in relation to Lennon, unacceptable behavioral models were visible, which others attributed to his difficult childhood without a father. Once John hit Cynthia in the face, and the girl left him, but after three months they got back together:
“He regretted what he did,” said Cynthia Powell. – It was an impulsive action, and he could not help himself. This is the first and last time he hit me. “
Lennon himself also admitted that he showed violence towards women:
“I used to be cruel with my girlfriend, but technically – with any woman,” the singer confessed in 1980. – I hit first. I could not express myself and opened my hands. I fought with men and beat women. “
Lennon’s first family
Although Lennon never raised his hand against Cynthia again, she says he humiliated her in any other way, even after they got married in 1962, when she became pregnant with Julian. During this period, Cynthia often had to deny that she was Lennon’s wife, due to his rapidly growing popularity. The Beatles were at their peak.
“If the public found out that the main person in the group was married, it could negatively affect their success, – said Cynthia in an interview with radio station NPR in 1985. – So I hid my pregnancy for quite a long time and wore wide blouses. In fact, I was repeatedly asked if I was John’s wife, but I denied it in every possible way. “

Leaving the family
Lennon spent very little time with his wife and son, and in 1968 he told Cynthia that he was cheating on her with many women. After that, the couple began divorce proceedings, and John went to live with Yoko Ono, later his second wife.
The Lennon housekeeper confessed to lawyers that John used drugs, lied and cheated on his wife. He was also cruel to Julian and even beat the boy for the smallest oversights, such as table manners.
Years later, the grown-up Julian said that he did not at all remember the father in the family and the subsequent parental divorce:
“It’s strange to realize that the person singing these songs was my father. It’s really hard for me to understand. “

In 1998, Julian, who also became a musician, confessed to the publication The Telegraph:
“From my point of view, I felt that he was a hypocrite. Dad could tell everyone about peace and love, but he did not bring peace and love to the people who supposedly meant the most to him: his wife and son. How can you talk about peace and love and cheat on your wife, then get a divorce and stop communicating with your son. If you bring a child into this world, whether it is planned or accidental, you need to take care of him. You need to be there and find time for him. It is so simple”.
In 1980, Lennon made an attempt to renew the relationship with his eldest son at the insistence of Cynthia, but their communication did not last long. In December of the same year, the singer and musician was shot dead outside his Manhattan home.
