The long-awaited night of museums in Moscow in 2021

About the event

Museum Night is an international event timed to coincide with International Museum Day, during which you can view museum exhibitions at night. On this night, many museums are open to visitors after sunset and almost until morning. The main goal of the action is to show the resource, opportunities, potential of modern museums. For the first time, the “Night of Museums” was held in Berlin in 1997.

According to the established tradition, art takes to the streets. On the territory of pedestrian zones in Moscow, “Night Stations” are organized – open multi-genre spaces where events of the parallel cultural and educational program “Nights at the Museum” take place.

The same sites are becoming a platform for open communication with the guests of the action: the information centers of the Night Stations tell about the brightest projects of museums, exhibition halls and other institutions over the past year.

Artists invite guests to their workshops, art volunteers take part in the “Night Guide School” campaign. The continuation of the excursion program “Nights at the Museum” are walks in the company with famous figures of culture and arts in Moscow museums.

More than 250 cultural institutions (museums, galleries and art clusters) are open for this event in Moscow. Including the action will take place in the Tretyakov Gallery, in the Kremlin and Tsaritsyno.

Night of Museums at the Tretyakov Gallery

The program of the Night of Museums in the Tretyakov Gallery action for 2021 has not yet been formed. And in 2020, all events in museums were held online. In particular, the Tretyakov Gallery hosted an online game “The Tretyakov Gallery Cup” last year. The participants were asked original questions about the directions of painting, about artists, famous paintings and, of course, about the grandiose collection of the Tretyakov Gallery. At the end of the game, the participants received pleasant gifts.

Night of museums in the Kremlin

Each year, the theme and expositions are different; the program of the Night of Museums in the Kremlin for 2021 has not yet been formed. But, for example, in 2019 the Night of Museums was held here under the theme “Masterpieces from the storerooms”.

The action began on May 19 at 18:00 with a lecture “Museum stories: what are hidden by the showcases of the Armory.” In order not to deviate from the topic, the organizers talked about the work of the custodians of funds, restorers, curators of exhibitions. Then the guests were shown a documentary about the Moscow Kremlin, and after the screening the visitors played an intellectual game. At about 22:00 the museum saw off the guests, completing the action.

The Night of Museums in the Kremlin 2020 was held online. Its participants could take an online tour of the Armory on the official website.

Night of museums in Tsaritsyno

In 2020, the Night of Museums in Tsaritsyno was held online. Visitors were offered an online tour “Secret Agent”. For just one day, an employee of the estate became a “secret agent” who showed the most beloved and recognizable places in the park: a dance floor, a greenhouse complex, Palace Square and a panorama of the Great Palace and the Bread House, Figured Bridge, a dam and a fountain, Bolshaya Polyana with a lonely pine tree and much more.

Also, on May 16, a selection of videos was awaited for the guests of the estate. One of them was dedicated to the language of flowers. Even in the Victorian era, the language of flowers was used to secretly express feelings, in those cases when it was impossible to speak about them openly. The video talked about how to correctly collect flower arrangements, combine flowers and plants. A special program was also organized for younger guests.
