9 horror movies based on true events

Although most horror films are pure fiction and even wild fantasy of their creators, some of them are still based on scary, but real events. Believe it or not, these 9 familiar horror films, which can be called horror classics, are based on very real life stories.

1. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

Plot: The ghost of a murdered maniac pursues its victim while it sleeps.

Director Wes Craven borrowed a plot from publications in Los Angeles Timesdescribing strange deaths among young Asians who mysteriously died in their sleep. Many of them were afraid to fall asleep because of the nightmares supposedly killing them.

Craven himself recalled it this way:

“The third case was the 21-year-old son of a doctor. The guy was afraid to fall asleep because of nightmares. He was given sleeping pills but did not sleep for about six or seven days. Finally, he fell asleep. In the middle of the night, the family heard screams and crashes. They ran into the room and saw that the guy was dead. An autopsy revealed that there was no heart attack and he died of unexplained reasons. I was intrigued by this dramatic story, and for a year I thought that I needed to create something on this topic. “

2. Children’s games (1988)

Plot: The soul of the killer, of course, infuses a child’s toy and begins to take revenge and kill.

In 1909, Robert Eugene Otto, a resident of Key West, announced that someone from the family servant performed a voodoo ritual with his doll. The doll began to move around the rooms, knocking over furniture and even talking to its little owner. When the boy grew up, the doll was sent to the attic, where it was kept until Otto’s death in 1974. Then a new family moved into his house, whose members allegedly later witnessed mysterious incidents. Nowadays, the doll is exhibited in the city museum.

3. The Amityville Horror (1979)

Plot: The family moves into the house where a murder was once committed, and nightmarish events begin to happen to it.

The film tells about the strange phenomena that drive the Lutz family crazy. This happened in 1975, when the family moved to the house where Ronald DeFeo had killed six people a year earlier. The Lutz spouses claimed that green slime appeared on the walls, and pigs with burning red eyes peeped into the kitchen and living room. In less than a month, the family left this cursed place.

4. Psycho (1960)

Plot: A young secretary escapes with stolen 40 thousand dollars and stops at a motel whose owners are very strange people.

This is the story of a real maniac and grave robber Ed Gean from Wisconsin, who killed people and dug up corpses in the late 1950s, and also made souvenirs from human skin. Author Robert Bloch “copied” his character Norman Bates with Ed Gein, a man with a split personality. By the way, the serial killers from “The Silence of the Lambs” and “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” are also part of Gin’s image.

5. The Exorcist (1973)

Plot: Catholic priests perform a rite of exorcism from a young girl.

Written by William Peter Blatty based on newspaper article The Washington Post 1949, which tells of four priests casting out the devil from a boy in Maryland. According to them, they allegedly saw the boy talking in a strange language, his bed shaking, and objects moving around the room.

6. The girl next door (2007)

The film is based on the novel by Jack Ketchum about the real murder of 16-year-old Sylvia Likens in Indiana in 1965. Sylvia and her sister were left by their parents in the care of their friend Gertrude Baniszewski. The film is based on a 1950 article from New York Times… This is the story of four Philadelphia police officers who are confronted with an unknown sticky and transparent substance. When one of the policemen tried to brush off the mucus, it began to dissolve and evaporate. Soon the FBI arrived on the scene, but they saw only a spot on the ground.
